LUMIX in action sports

Whether at sea, on the track, or on the asphalt, LUMIX keeps pace with the action without missing a beat. In skateboarding and surfing, there is no downtime—only speed, unpredictability, and split-second decisions. It is precisely in this arena that technology ceases to be merely a tool and becomes almost an extension of the creator's own body.
From Santa Catarina to Rio de Janeiro, LUMIX has traversed landscapes where the pace never slows. The track vibrates, the sea shifts, and the thread connecting these two worlds is the need to be ready the moment the action unfolds.

In June, LUMIX engaged with these communities through activations that brought together content creators, photographers, videographers, and brand enthusiasts. Beyond hands-on interaction with the equipment, the activities included workshops, practical demonstrations, the sharing of experiences, and opportunities to test the cameras in real-world shooting scenarios. More than just showcasing technology, the initiative aimed to foster learning, experimentation, and connections across the diverse levels of the creative community.

For Go Skateboarding Day—celebrated on June 20 and 21 in Tubarão (SC) in partnership with the Tubarão Skateboarding Association (ATSB) and Cultura Skateboard—creators Victor Santos and Anderson Tuca led a two-day program featuring hands-on workshops and coverage of the competition. Beyond capturing the tricks and the intensity of the course, the experience also fostered direct interaction with the public, allowing attendees to handle the equipment and experience the capture process firsthand in a real-world skateboarding setting.

During the workshop, Anderson Tuca shared with the participants that building a strong image goes beyond technical mastery. "You need to understand the moment, know the language of skateboarding, and respect the culture to convey the emotion found in every trick and every session."

The hands-on session also served to demonstrate the performance of LUMIX cameras in real-world action scenarios. Models such as the LUMIX G100D, G97, S5, and the new S1RII were showcased, highlighting their ability to track fast movement while maintaining high image quality. Among the features presented, Anderson highlighted the S1RII’s "Open Gate" capability, which offers greater editing flexibility by allowing content to be created in various formats from a single recording. He also drew attention to the file flexibility during post-production, which simplifies adjustments to color, framing, and final finishing.

In Saquarema, from June 19 to 28, the setting shifted—in partnership with Lost Brasil—but the underlying logic remained the same. In surfing, every wave is unique, inherently unrepeatable. LUMIX’s presence unfolded in a visually rich environment, where creators and participants tested the equipment under real-world conditions of light, speed, and continuous motion, keeping pace with the inherent unpredictability of the sea.

In this type of environment, certain elements become crucial for capturing action sports. Equipment ergonomics takes center stage by allowing the camera to move with the body without interrupting the flow of the action, while stabilization keeps the image steady even amidst constant instability. Together, they form a silent yet essential foundation for the creative experience in the field.

Added to this are other factors that work in sync with the speed of the sport. Fast, precise autofocus that tracks sudden changes in direction without losing the subject. Rapid response times that ensure the shot is captured the exact moment the action unfolds. Resistance to extreme conditions—such as salt, sand, impact, and intense lighting variations. And creative freedom, allowing you to switch between stills and video without breaking the flow of shooting.

Taken together, these elements allow the creator to remain within the movement without being interrupted by it. It is not merely a matter of technology, but of the ability to respond to the unpredictable and to keep pace, in real time, with events that happen only once.
