Customizable focusing ring
The focus ring can also be used as a control ring, allowing you to assign important functions, such as Crop Zoom*, for zoom-like control, even with a fixed focal length lens.
*Compatible with models DC-S1M2/S1M2ES/S1RM2/S5M2/S5M2X/S9 (from April 2026). Applicable firmware versions: S1RM2 version 1.2 or later, S5M2 version 3.4 or later, S5M2X version 2.4 or later, S9 version 1.6 or later.
Focus button (Fn button)
The focus button on the lens barrel allows you to lock the focus while it is pressed. It can also be assigned as an Fn button for your preferred function, allowing for comfortable operation that suits your shooting style.

Measuring approximately 4.09 cm in length and weighing only 144 g, the LUMIX S 40mm F2 is one of the most compact full-frame prime lenses with an L-mount. When attached to LUMIX S-series cameras, it forms a nimble system, ideal for everyday photography and travel.
Two color options
Available in black or silver finishes, the lens is designed to visually match the camera body and reflect your personal photographic style.
Construction resistant to dust, splashes, and extreme cold.
Designed for unpredictable environments, the lens features a dust- and splash-resistant seal and reliable operation down to -10°C when attached to a compatible LUMIX camera body. The fluorine-coated front element repels water, oil, and dirt, making maintenance easier.
Direction of rotation of the ring
You can change the direction of rotation of the focus ring to match your preferred operating style.
Compatible with DC-S1RM2, DC-S1M2, and DC-S1M2ES. Update the DC-S1RM2 firmware to version 1.2.
Non-linear mode
The focusing ring supports both linear and non-linear modes. In non-linear mode, the amplitude of the focus shift varies depending on the speed at which the ring is rotated, allowing for quick and flexible adjustments.
Linear mode
In linear mode, the focus changes at a consistent, user-defined speed, providing precise and mechanical control, especially useful for intuitive and accurate focusing during video recording.
Other features
An internal focusing system driven by a stepping motor provides fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus. With AF control up to 240 fps when working with the camera body, it allows for quick focus and smooth tracking of moving subjects in a wide variety of photo and video situations.
Advanced optical design and an optimized internal cylinder structure effectively suppress focusing breath. In high-contrast scenarios, micro-step aperture control allows for smooth F-stop transitions, preventing sudden exposure changes.
Consideration for the environment and green initiatives.
LUMIX is taking steps to become more environmentally conscious. We have reduced the number of packaging components by 33% and the use of plastic materials by 85% compared to the previous model. In addition, to reduce environmental impact, we have incorporated corrugated cardboard cushioning materials into our packaging.
